In the summer when it has been very humid for days, you can feel a storm building.

When it arrives, the thunderclaps and lightning flashes feel like they are surrounding your house. If it is nighttime and the electricity goes off, you rush to find candles or flashlights. You might play cards by candlelight or a game such as naming the capitols of all the states. Sometimes the rain comes pouring down in sheets and you run to close the windows. The flashes of lightning are scary but also intriguing. I remember as a child being told that during a lightning storm, you should never talk on the phone, take a shower, or stand near a sink. That is still considered good advice.
