Catamount Arts will host Circus Smirkus for four shows this summer as part of the 32nd Annual Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour.
The 69-show tour will visit five states and 16 towns over 51 days, including two St. Johnsbury performances on July 2, and two on July 3. The shows are at 1 and 6 p.m. each day, and will take place under the Big Top at the Green Mountain Mall.
The 30 budding circus stars in the 2019 troupe are ages 11 to 18, and bring youthful exuberance and polished circus skills to grace the Big Top from regions across the United States and Canada. They hail from Canada and 10 states. Four hail from Vermont, including St. Johnsbury Academy student Asom Hayman-Jones of Glover.
Now in its 32nd year, Circus Smirkus is the only traveling ‘tented’ youth circus in the United States. Performing under traditional European-style circus tents, patrons experience the authentic and historic flair of the iconic circus in a Big Top where there’s not a bad seat in the house.
The Smirkus Midway opens one hour before showtime and features novelties and food concessions.
